A birthday rarely gathers one single crowd: colleagues, cousins, neighbours and childhood friends do not necessarily know each other. The booth then works as an excuse to talk. Three people go in, six come out, and the queue itself becomes a place to chat. So we put the booth on a visible thoroughfare, never in a separate room, so the entertainment stays in everyone’s line of sight all evening.
The format follows the age and the venue. For a twentieth in a hired hall we favour a sturdy build, the Signature plan with its 400 prints and a bold backdrop. For a fiftieth at home or in a restaurant, a compact booth fits into two square metres and stays quiet. Either way the set-up happens before the guests arrive and the take-down after they leave, with no break in the middle of the party.

Simple things to decide before the day; they change the result.
Pick a backdrop that nods to the year of birth: colours, pattern, lettering. The wink works better than a generic set.
Open the booth just before the cake: that is the real peak of the evening, and it stays until the end.
Hang a blank board next to it for sticking prints and writing messages.
Keep the props to about ten sturdy pieces; beyond that, everything ends up on the floor.
If children are coming, ask for an adjusted height: they will use the booth far more often.

Yes, provided you have two metres by two free, a standard socket and access without a spiral staircase. We check those points over the phone before confirming the booking.
